The Department said in an official release that there was a possibility of contamination of water from carcasses and waste materials. The people should be vigilant against spread of cholera, gastroenteritis, hepatitis and leptospirosis (Weil's disease). Only hot food items and boiled water should be consumed. It release said that use of food kept in the open and cooked on roadsides should be avoided. Personal cleanliness and cleanliness of the surroundings should be ensured. The release said that those having fever or other symptoms must seek the services of a doctor. Even minor ailments occurring in relief camps, set up in flooded areas, should be reported to the health inspector. The Director of Health Services has directed the medical officers to visit relief camps and take preventive measures against outbreak of diseases. People and voluntary agencies should cooperate with the health workers in the work, the release added.
