By Our Special Correspondent
The High Court last month banned the fish-carts for a period of three weeks following a public interest litigation filed by K.R. (Traffic) Ramaswamy. The fish-cart menace had reached far-reaching proportions during the last couple of years compounding traffic problem in the city. These illegal contraptions were fitted with high-speed engines and were used for transporting a wide range of products from construction material to steel rods. Several political party functionaries found owning these vehicles profitable as they were rented out on a daily bases for rates ranging from Rs.75 to Rs.100. Meanwhile, police protection has also been provided for Mr.Ramaswamy following court orders. He was threatened allegedly by certain members of the fish-cart association.
