Advani's visit to Russia put off

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI OCT. 15. The Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani's visit to Russia, slated for tomorrow, has been ``postponed'', Home Ministry officials said here tonight. The reason for the postponement was the inability to arrange a meeting with the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, sources said.

The meeting with Mr. Putin was supposed to have been the highlight of Mr. Advani's four-day visit, which was announced just last week. Talking to journalists on Sunday, Mr. Advani had said that the visit was the result of a long-standing invitation from the Russian Government. Apart from Moscow, Mr. Advani and his entourage were to have visited St. Petersburg.
