Maran 'serious'

CHENNAI OCT. 17. The condition of the Union Commerce and Industry Minister, Murasoli Maran, turned `serious' today and the Apollo Hospitals said he had a "systemic setback".

A hospital bulletin said that Mr. Maran, who is in the intensive care unit following his fungal endocarditis and valve replacement, "is presently serious with bilateral lung involvement along with systemic setback in his general condition. He is on ventilatory support and renal dialysis".

The Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, spoke to the Apollo Hospitals Chairman, Prathap Reddy, and enquired about Mr. Maran's condition. The Union Health Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, was also "briefed on Mr. Maran's present health condition."

The Union Health Minister, Shatrughan Sinha, who inquired about the condition of Mr. Maran, offered all medical assistance to him within the country or abroad.
