Initial reports said the catch was worth Rs. 7 crore, but reliable sources say it was much more than that. Three alleged associates of Lala are said to have been arrested in this connection. The racket came to light in 2000, and Lala was arrested in 2001. Police have so far found fake stamp papers worth thousands of crores of rupees in Chennai, Hyderabad, Vishakapatnam, Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, and Pune. Lala is now being interrogated by police in Pune, where fake stamp papers worth Rs. 200 crore were seized a few months ago. Meanwhile, a police team from Hubli had arrived here after arresting two more alleged associates of Lala and recovering Rs. 58 lakh in cash from them, sources said.
