Depression in Bay

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, OCT. 23. A depression, which formed over west-central Bay of Bengal on Tuesday evening, lay centred this morning 180 km northeast of Chennai.

"It is likely to intensify further and move in a north-westerly direction and cross south Andhra coast between Nellore and Machilipatnam tomorrow morning," said a bulletin issued by the Meteorological department on Wednesday night.

"Heavy rain is likely at one or two places over extreme north coastal Tamil Nadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh in the next two days. Squally weather is likely along off south coastal Andhra Pradesh and three north coastal Tamil Nadu districts, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chennai, in the same period. Fishermen are advised not to venture into the sea", the bulletin added.

S.K.Subramanian, Director of the Area Cyclone Warning Centre, said the onset of the northeast monsoon was expected in two days.
