Advani's remarks baseless: Dhaka

By Haroon Habib

DHAKA Nov 8. Bangladesh has rejected the Deputy Prime Minister, L. K. Advani's assertions that activities of Pakistan's ISI and the Al-Qaeda have increased in its territory, after the change of Government last year.

A Foreign Ministry spokesperson when asked about Mr. Advani's observations, said: " Bangladesh never expected such comments and observation from such a top Indian leader like Mr. Advani. What he said is totally baseless, motivated and irresponsible."

The official news agency, quoting the Ministry spokesman said, "We expect that in future that he (Mr. Advani) will not make such comments about Bangladesh for the sake of friendship between the two countries."

Meanwhile, the Bangladesh Foreign Minister, M. Morshed Khan, said his Government would soon send a list of criminals to India who had crossed over to escape the current countrywide drive by the Army and other law enforcing agencies, for extradition. Mr. Khan told the British Broadcasting Corporation yesterday that there was proof that "many criminals and wanted terrorists" had taken shelter in several Indian regions.
