Court orders recounting

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI NOV. 8. Three years after the September 1999 Lok Sabha elections, the Madras High Court has ordered recounting of votes in the Karur constituency from where the AIADMK won with a narrow margin. While the AIADMK's M. Chinnasamy polled only 2,847 votes more than his DMK rival, the votes declared invalid totalled 16,906.

On a petition from the DMK candidate, K.C. Palanisamy, Justice A. Ramamurthi, said that the available evidence showed that there was a prima facie case for recount of votes.
