Farm workers plan `Chalo Assembly' on Nov. 12

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD Nov. 9. The Andhra Pradesh Agriculture Workers' Union, is organising a "Chalo Assembly'' on November 12, demanding a special discussion on the plight of farm labourers in drought-hit areas, during the Assembly session beginning on November 11.

In a statement, K. Krishnamurthy and B. Venkat, vice-president and general secretary of the union, charged the State Government with showing indifferent attitude towards farm labourers.

They were in a pathetic condition and on the verge of starvation, unable to get any work.

Though the Centre had allotted three lakh tonnes of foodgrains under the Food-for-work programme a month ago, the State Government had not utilised it so far.

This was in addition to 2.5 lakh tonnes allotted earlier and which too was lying unutilised.
