Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Staff Reporter
The committee, which met here on Friday with the District Collector, E. Ayyappan, in the chair, the DMO, K. Shylaja, and other officials, expressed anxiety over the steady decline in the birth-rate of girl children. No request for abortion of a female foetus may be allowed and all private hospitals should keep proper records on the foeticides that they may have to conduct. A team of expert doctors under the district medical officer will conduct lightning raids at the hospitals. Any complaint regarding any institution that might be illegally performing foeticide, should be brought to the attention of the DMO, the committee said. No institution offering pre-natal diagnostic services should reveal the sex of the foetus. Every institution should also display the board announcing that the sex of the foetus will not be determined, the panel said.
