Bombs seized in Bangladesh

Dhaka Nov. 9. A huge quantity of chocolate bombs, allegedly from India, was seized by the Bangladesh Army from a passenger bus during the on-going drive to crack down on criminals, reports said here today.

Twelve thousand ``Indian chocolate bombs'' were recovered while searching the passenger bus in Magura, a border district with West-Bengal, the local dailies said. No further details about the seizure were available.

Meanwhile, with the death of a youth-wing leader of the ruling Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in Feni district yesterday, custodial deaths during the three-week-old Army crackdown have gone up to 22. While the relatives of the victims say the deaths were caused due to torture, officials say they were due to poor health.

Since the "Operation Open Heart" began on October 17, several thousand people, including politicians, criminals and terrorists, have been arrested and large quantities of arms and ammunition seized.

Meanwhile, various opinion polls published by the local media said criminal activities throughout the country had reduced and common people were feeling better since the crackdown began. — PTI
