The South India Cell for Human Rights Education and Monitoring (SICHREM), in a press release, stated that the notice was issued on complaints by it on the incidents. As far as UAS incident was concerned, notice was issued to the Commissioner of Police, Bangalore City, on October 10, seeking his report within four weeks. The Bangalore police had resorted to caning when students and teachers, who were protesting the transfer of around 100 acres of UAS land for the biotechnology park, violated prohibitory orders in April. The commission has asked the Director-General of Police and the Superintendent of Police, Bijapur, to take appropriate action with regard to the investigation of the firing case as per the guidelines laid down by the NHRC to chief ministers. It has sought the action taken report by them within six weeks. It may be noted that police opened fire at Zalki village when a mob angered over a sub-inspector reportedly committing suicide on the premises of the police station, turned violent the mob allegedly turned violent. Three persons were killed in the firing.
