Enraged over the incident, villagers staged a rasta roko on the busy Hanamkonda-Siddipet road on Friday. Reports reaching here said the local ANM administered DPT injection to the infants of the village on Wednesday. The ANM had given the injection to 20 children on Wednesday and five of them were affected due to reaction. All children, including two-and-half-month-old Naveen, developed rashes on their body and also high fever. The parents shifted them to a private hospital at Siddipet for treatment. When the condition of Naveen became critical, he was shifted to the Niloufer Hospital in Hyderabad. He died while undergoing treatment last night. Irked over the incident, the villagers and the emotional parents of the children staged a rasta roko on the Hanamkonda-Siddipet road obstructing traffic carrying the body of Naveen in the village. The agitationists demanded that the authorities visit the village and inquire into the incident. When the news reached the Joint Collector, P. Anil Kumar, who was camping in Koheda region, he rushed to the village and pacified the agitationists. At one stage, he also became emotional and burst into tears on seeing the body. He promised the villagers to inquire into the matter and take necessary action. He also assured all necessary assistance to the bereaved parents. The deputy DMHO, Abbaiah, rushed to the spot and enquired into the incident. He would submit a report to the Collector for necessary action.
