Bagan holds Vasco

Margao Nov. 19. Defending champion Mohun Bagan survived some anxious moments and held on gamely to hold Vasco to a 1-1 draw in their opening match of the Oil PSU 7th National Football League at the Nehru Stadium, here on Tuesday.

Bagan drew first blood off a counter move in the seventh minute. Medio Renedy Singh from the left sent a cross into the box which goalkeeper Rogerio Ramos failed to clear, enabling striker S.K. Sanjib to slot in.

Vasco, which dominated the match throughout, after missing half a dozen scoring chances, restored parity in the 67th minute through a penalty by striker Rui Wanderlei Weis. The penalty was awarded by referee S. Suresh after Riston Rodrigues' volley hit defender Isa Musah Eroje's left hand inside the box.
