Zydus to launch 3 new vaccines

HYDERABAD NOV. 20. Zydus Cadila Healthcare is planning to introduce three new vaccines in the Indian market, which includes the Hepatitis A vaccine by May next year, under an import tie-up with Berna Biotech of Berne, Switzerland, according to S. Nagaraj, General Manager, Zydus Vaccicare.

Announcing the launch of a duck embryo rabies vaccine under the brand name of `Vaxirab', in Andhra Pradesh, he said at a press conference here that negotiations were on with Berna for an MMR vaccine, and another vaccine against chicken pox .

The three new vaccines will be imported in bulk under collaboration with Berna and repacked in India, he said. The anti-rabies Vaxirab, which is administered to humans for dog bites, was manufactured in India under a technical collaboration with Berna. He felt that India offered a good market given the WHO estimates of three million dog bites causing 35,000 deaths each year.
