Rayudu keeps date with history

By Our Sports Reporter

HYDERABAD NOV. 20. Ambati Tirupati Rayudu kept his date with history scoring yet another blazing century (159 not out) to become the youngest cricketer ever to record a double century and a century in the same match in Ranji Trophy. The 17-year-old Hyderabadi's scintillating knock was the highlight on the final day as the four-day match against Andhra ended in a draw in the Elite Group Ranji Trophy championship at Gymkhana Grounds here today.

The exciting stroke-maker, playing his third Ranji match, was certainly in a hurry as he raced away to his 100 from his overnight score of 70 with six 4s off 21 balls this morning. He played every stroke in the book and each of them bore the stamp of class and authority. Once he crossed the magical three-figure mark, there was no stopping him. Incidentally, Rayudu has become the fourth Hyderabadi to score a century in each innings in Ranji Trophy, joining the select band of Mohd Azharuddin, M.V. Sridhar and V.V.S. Laxman, according to Thomas Blessington, official scorer of HCA. Hyderabad picked one point for taking the lead and Andhra none but both teams have one point each from the first two matches in their campaign.
