Ban on strikes likely: Isaac

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM Nov. 20. The CPI(M) State secretariat member, T.M. Thomas Isaac, has said that the Kerala Government's pact with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) was likely to result in bans on hartals and strikes and spread of unorganised sector in the economy.

Inaugurating a seminar on `Problems in the Labour Sector in the Context of Economic Reforms', organised by the Kerala University Employees' Union here today, Dr. Isaac said the discussions with the ADB, begun to reform the State's finances, had ended up as a programme for reforming the Government itself. Reform in the context of the ADB loan meant placing major sectors of the State's economy as health and education at the disposal of the ADB, he said.
