Uttar Pradesh
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI NOV. 20. The Congress party sought to make light of the CPI (M) criticism of its decision to abstain from voting during the Legislative Council election in Uttar Pradesh on Monday. ``We are a different party and they have a right to hold their opinion of things'' said the CPP spokesperson, Satvath Chaturvedi. He also defended his party's decision not to vote and in fact put the blame on the Samajwadi Party saying it had not even bothered to consult his party before putting up a candidate. ``We were not consulted and we cannot be expected to vote blindly''. He said their decision to abstain from voting had not dramatically changed the situation as far as the future of the Mayawati Government was concerned. He pointed out that the Government's strength was not being tested.
