The suspended officer, who lives at Srinagar in Bangalore, had with him two cars, a kinetic Honda and other assets. His houses at Jayanagar and J.P.Nagar were also raided. In Channapatna, Mr. Govindaiah owned "benami" houses and a silk reeling unit. One of the houses is in the name of his sister. The silk reeling unit is in the name of his brother. According to sources, two houses were in the name of his wife. He allegedly owned two-and-a-half acres of land in Kambalapalli. The initial estimates indicated that he owned Rs. one crore worth assets and property. The Lokayukta had unearthed irregularities to the tune of crores of rupees during its visit to Byatarayana CMC in June. The Government had kept the Commissioners of CMCs under suspension. It had asked the Accountant-General to audit the accounts of all CMCs around Bangalore where stamp duty grants of crores of rupees were received by them.
