The Home Minister, Mallikarjun Kharge, the Minister of State for Primary Education, B.K.Chandrashekar, and the KPCC President, Allum Veerabhadrappa, attended the meeting. Mr. Shanmugasundaram had played a role in the release of the Kannada matinee idol, Rajkumar, two years ago along with Bhanu. At the meeting with the mathadipathis, it came to light that they had made little headway in their efforts to establish contact with Veerappan in the last two months and they had no emissary of their own. Mr. Shanmugasundaram's name was suggested as the Chief Minister expressed the Government's difficulties in sending the jailed Tamil activist, Kolathur Mani, as an emissary. It is learnt that Veerappan is insisting on Mani being sent to him, as he had financial dealings with him. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister is said to have sought an explanation from the Minister of State for Food Processing, Raju Gowda, for his statement that Mr. Nagappa was getting home food and medicine even though he was in Veerappan's custody. The Chief Minister is stated to have taken exception to the statement and it is for the second time it is happening.
