However, those who have obtained a MPhil degree before December 1993 and those who submit the thesis for the PhD prior to December 31, 2002, have been exempted from the NET. The decision to this effect was taken by the Academic Council of the university at its meeting held here today. Students admitted to the B.Com Vocational degree course from next year onwards will be required to obtain a pass minimum of 50 per cent marks in practicals. The Academic Council has referred to the Syndicate the matter relating to the decision of the UGC to grant a concession of five per cent marks for blind and physically handicapped candidates for appointment as teachers in colleges and universities. The stipulation that the L.LB students should have cleared all the examinations of the previous years for the results of the final year to be declared, has been withdrawn this year. The council has ratified the decision to grant permission to students who have secured 40 per cent marks to appear for the first year MBBS examination. It was also decided to allow the post-graduate medical students with 80 per cent attendance each year, to appear for the examination this year. However, students whose admission had been delayed will be required to attend the three-year course till such time the principal concerned certifies that the course has been completed by them.
