Trade unions march to Raj Bhavan

By Our Staff Reporter

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM NOV. 20. The CITU State secretary, P.K. Gurudasan, said that the efforts of the State and Central Government to invite global finance capital was anti-labour and economically self-defeating.

Inaugurating a march by various trade unions under the National Labour Platform to the Raj Bhavan here on Wednesday, Mr. Gurudasan said that global finance capital has brought no new industries to the State. "Those who control the global capital are interested only in taking over public sector units (PSUs). The job security of hundreds of thousands of industrial workers are being jeo-pardised,'' he said.

Mr. Gurudasan said that the need of the hour was to strengthen public sector units rather than selling them off. The removal of import restrictions on certain key items had almost destroyed the agriculture and industrial sectors in the country. These restrictions should be brought back. The minimum bonus Act for workers should be amended. There should be a new Central Act to ensure the welfare of agricultural labourers.

The INTUC leader, G. Subodhan, welcomed the gathering. The AITUC leader, C. Divakaran, and Peroorkada Sadasivan were among those who spoke.
