Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
The function to mark Celebration of Children's rights was organised by Divya Disha, an NGO working for eradication of child labour in association with Department of Women and Child Welfare, Department of School, and Unicef. Over 1,500 children representing various schools, institutions including Bridge Schools, were present. The programmes and skits presented were thought provoking. They even interacted with children and adults among the audience soliciting their views on children's rights, education and child labour. The Minister for Women and Child Welfare, S. Saraswathi, emphasised that children should be aware of their rights, education being the basic one among them. She said parents should treat children as friends respecting their opinions and not force their views upon them. The Director of Women and Child Welfare Department, Mallikarjuna Rao, the Child Protection Officer- Unicef, Sudha Murali, the Divya Disha Director, Philip and president, Naomi spoke. The magic show by Samula Venu, was a special attraction.
