This was stated by the Director of the British Council for South India, Eunice Crook, during the launch of the India Collection and Online journals at the library here on Saturday. Writer, William Dalrymple, formally launched the India Collection which has about 500 titles of books on India including those by written by Indian writers in English. Mr. Dalrymple in the City for the launch of his book White Mughals was ecstatic over the library collection and the fact that there were so many people "even on a Saturday afternoon." Back in England people would rather spend their weekends sitting in a pub watching a football match. "Anything that promotes cultural understanding between India and England has to be welcomed. I would like to lay my hands on most of these excellent books," he exclaimed, as he autographed his new book. Ms. Crook felt Mr. Dalrymple was the right person to launch the India collection considering his literary links. She launched the online journals of about 600 titles including those from the archives since 1989. The Council was constantly reviewing their collection and strengthening the library by acquiring those that the members seek. Online journals include those of management, arts, information technology, science and so on. Members can browse, download and email the material. Sudhakar Goud, Manager, British Library, welcomed the gathering.
