Sir,__ This has reference to the article "Interlinking mirages" (Dec. 3) by Medha Patkar and L.S. Aravinda. Large amount of money is spent on one single project as an apparent solution to the proposed set of problems, and as has happened in the past with Sardar Sarovar where the entire irrigation budget is allocated to it for years, the State is left with no money to spend on community-based small-scale water management initiatives which are found to be more effective. Given the way the Government handled infrastructure projects in the past, I hope the media actually plays a more active watchful role in this project. Rahul Gudla, Hyderabad Sir, When we are unable to solve a single river basin (Cauvery) problem, how would it be possible to solve disputes of inter-linked river basins which may arise? S. Chandrasekar, K.R. Thoppur, T.N.
