Hartal disrupts normal life in Kasaragod town

By Our Staff Reporter

KASARAGOD DEC. 6. An undeclared hartal was observed today in many parts of the district, especially in Kasaragod town and border areas, as part of the 10th anniversary of the demolition of the Babri Masjid.

Barring a few incidents of stone throwing on buses and burning of tyres, no untoward incidents were reported from anywhere in the district. Stray incidents of violence were reported from Manjeswaram, Kumbla, Thalapadi, Kuniya, Pooval and Chemmanad.

Though no organisation had called for a hartal, the day turned out to be a hartal-like situation. Except a couple of convoy services conducted by the KSRTC in the Kasaragod-Kanhangad route, no buses plied in the town. Almost all the shops and business establishments remained closed for the day.

According to Jose George, Superintendent of Police, Kasaragod, some youngsters were engaged in stone throwing and burning of tyres, paralysing normal life in the town.
