NSCN (I-M) ridicules surrender of underground activists

KOHIMA DEC. 7. The NSCN (I-M) today ridiculed the recent surrender of 11 underground activists belonging to different factions, alleging that the so-called surrender was ``stage-managed'' by the Assam Rifles.

A statement issued by the NSCN (I-M) here described the surrender of the four activists of the NSCN (I-M), five of the NSCN (K) and two of the NNC/FGN at Mokokchung as ``another propaganda warfare in the form of stage-managed surrender'' by the security forces.

The statement claimed that after a thorough investigation with all units of the `Naga Army' (armed wing of the NSCN) it was found that no cadres had deserted the organisation and surrendered to any authority.

The Assam Rifles maintained that about 83 underground cadres had given up arms before the authorities in Nagaland during the year.

The surrendered cadres had been inducted into the Assam Rifles and some of them given employment in different sectors, it claimed.
