NCP wants all-party meet on disinvestment

The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has opposed the Government's decision to disinvest the public sector oil majors, Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and demanded an all-party meeting to discuss the issue.
The party general secretary, Tariq Anwar, said in a statement that the NCP opposed the move on three counts — because these companies were profit-earning enterprises, their strategic importance and the bid to involve foreign companies.
"During the 1965 and 1971 wars, the Government had experienced the need to have the oil sector as a government undertaking and hence any disinvestment in this sector is detrimental to the security concerns of our country. However, the NDA Government has ignored all nationalist concerns and has announced a `consensus' which is bogus and is a consensus in sharing the loot of the nation's wealth,'' thestatement said.
