By Manas Dasgupta
Addressing an election rally here, Ms. Gandhi did not mention the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, by name nor what the accusation was against her mother-in-law, but apparently she was referring to his election speech in Jamnagar on Saturday night during which he reportedly commented that during its rule, the Congress had "entered into a pact with Pakistan after giving up claims over our territory". ``It is cowardice, it is sin,'' she said about the charges against Indira Gandhi and added that the people of Gujarat would give a "fitting reply'' to such accusations by voting the BJP out of power in the State on December 12. Raising her voice, she said it was during Mrs. Gandhi's regime that India taught "a tough lesson" to Pakistan and not during the rule of the present Prime Minister. The people in the country would not spare the BJP for making such baseless accusations against a patriot like Indira Gandhi, who sacrificed her life for the cause of the nation. "Beware,'' she said, "the people will not tolerate this.''
