Gujarat
By Javed M Ansari
The Congress said the people had turned out in large numbers, despite the vitriolic campaign launched by the BJP and "attempts to terrorise voters". He decried the strong language used by the Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, and his supporters against the Chief Election Commissioner. "This shows they are desperate and realise they will lose," he said. Regarding Uttar Pradesh, Mr. Sharma said there was nothing new in the schemes announced by her at the election meeting in Amethi on Wednesday. People started leaving the meeting as soon as Ms. Mayawati started criticising Ms. Gandhi and her daughter, Priyanka Gandhi.
