Indo-Russian missile to go into trials in two months

By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE DEC. 12. A supersonic cruise missile, which is being jointly developed by India and Russia, will go into trials in two months, V.K. Aatre, Scientific Adviser to the Defence Minister, has said.

Speaking to presspersons at a conference on smart materials here, Dr. Aatre said the missiles were being developed as a joint venture between the two countries. "We have a larger stake in it,'' he said. The missile would have "surface-to-surface, surface-to-air, ship-to-air and ship-to-surface capability,'' he said.

Two major private sector companies are also said to be part of the project, with a host of smaller companies getting contracts for manufacturing components.

On the aerial drone, Lakshya, he said that it was successfully demonstrated "in a foreign country'' and that an order of 12 drones was expected. If the order came through, the execution would take two years.
