Unity in diversity is need of the hour: Gujral

JALANDHAR DEC. 21. The former Prime Minister, Inder Kumar Gujral, said today that unity in diversity and respect for all religions was the need of the hour for maintaining culture of peace and non-violence in the world.

India had sustained the onslaught of terror and violence due to strong democratic set-up, he said addressing a global conference on culture of peace and non-violence.

India had passed through difficult phases of history in the past, which ultimately helped her a lot to reshape the policies for the welfare of the people. Though most of the southern states had succeeded in setting up huge industries in the field of information and bio-technology to compete against foreign companies, Punjab had miserably failed to reshape its policies in this regard so far, he said.
