Mufti slams 'vested interests' trying to divide nation

By Our Staff Reporter

Devipur (Akhnoor) Dec. 21. Terming the moves of "vested interests" to divide the country on communal lines as dangerous, the Chief Minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, has said that Jammu and Kashmir will soon be a "shining example" of communal harmony.

Speaking on Friday after giving away appointment letters to victims of the cross-border shelling by Pakistan, he said, "The country cannot be divided on religious lines. India is and will remain a vibrant nation, where democracy has flourished over the years."

Taking to task the National Conference government in the State, he said, "The earlier regime doled out 1.50 lakh jobs during the past six years but the persons who are getting jobs now are those who should have been on the priority list."

The Mufti said border residents would continue to be provided all possible help by his Government.

"The country fought four wars with Pakistan and it is the people along the borders of the State who have had to face the brunt. The State Government proposes to provide rations to the border migrants till May and it will recommend to the Centre that it grant relief to the families of the Government employees displaced from the borders."
