Saroja Devi Award to Usha P.Rai

BANGALORE Dec. 26. The Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) has unanimously selected the prolific Kannada writer and President of the Karnataka Lekhakiyara Sangha, Usha P.Rai, for the annual "Padma Bhushan B. Saroja Devi" Award for 2002-2003.

The noted film artiste, B. Saroja Devi, has instituted the award in the memory of her late daughter Bhuvaneshwari. The award, which will be presented in January next, comprises a citation and Rs. 10,000 in cash.

Fifty-seven-year-old Ms. Rai has a number of short stories, articles, and novels to her credit. She also held offices in literary and social organisations, and has bagged many awards.
