Maximise productivity, Legal Services officials told

By Our Legal Correspondent

NEW DELHI JAN. 1. The Union Law Minister, Jana Krishnamurthy, has exhorted officials of the Indian Legal Services to maximise productivity and regulate efficiently the business of the Government.

Addressing the officials on New Year's Day, he said the Law Ministry had tendered 47,500 legal advice out of 49,000 references received from various ministries and departments during 2002, which was a record.

He complimented the Legislative Department for the highest number of legislation drafted during the first three years of the NDA Government totalling 131 Bills and eight Constitution Amendment Acts that were approved by Parliament. He reminded the officials that the tempo of good performance would be sustained with improved efficiency this year.

The Minister appreciated the initiatives of the Department of Justice for expediting the appointment of the highest number of Judges for High Courts and galvanising the Centrally sponsored scheme for augmenting judiciary in States and Union Territories.
