Sunni meet to discuss Shariat tenets

By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE JAN. 2. The north zone Sunni conference to be held here on January 5, under the aegis of the Samastha Kerala Jamaat ul Ulema, Sunni Yuvajana Sanghom among others, would explain the beliefs of Islamic Shariat, in the context of the Koran.

At a press conference here today, Syed Ali Bafakki Thangal and others said the joint conference was being held against the background of the notions about Islam circulated during the Mujahid Conferences.

Issues such as talaq, women's entry to mosques, etc. were being pictured in an adverse light, and the conference would seek to dispel doubts on this, in keeping with Islamic tenets. Islam discouraged divorce, they added.

The conference will be inaugurated by the All India Sunni Education Board president, M.A. Abdul Khader. The president, Samastha Kerala Jamaat ul Ulema, Tajul Ulema Syed Abdurehman, will preside. The all-India general secretary, Kanthapuram A.P. Abubacker Musaliyar, will deliver the keynote address.
