In an editorial in the latest issue of party organ, `People's Democracy', the CPI(M) said that while some rational Indians would like to dismiss it as a nightmare, `this will only be a wishful thinking''. Various constitutional bodies and independent investigations showed that the "pogrom was no accident'' but a part of "well-thought-out plan, executed with fascist precision''. "In contradistinction are those who are celebrating this Gujarat experiment emboldened to declare that within two years the secular democratic republic of India will be converted into a fascist Hindu Rashtra". On the Prime Minister's Goa musings, it said Mr. Vajpayee had declared that there was no contradiction between Hindutva and secularism. "V.D. Savarkar who coined the term `Hindutva' would be turning in his grave!'' In the process of such preoccupying of the country's agenda, the dismal record of the BJP-led Government is sought to be brushed under the carpet, the editorial said.
