PDP activist held for burning T.N. bus
By Our Special Correspondent
KOZHIKODE
JAN. 4
. Police today arrested, Shamsuddin (30), a PDP activist, for allegedly setting fire to an Express bus of the Tamil Nadu Transport Corporation in Kozhikode last Sunday.
The City Police Commissioner, Sanjiv Patjoshi, told The Hindu that he was a resident of Kunnamangalam. Evidence so far showed Shamsuddin was the lone person involved in the incident, he said.
The Tamil Nadu Road Corporation's bus, parked in a corner of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation's bus stand on Mavoor Road, went up in flames last Sunday.
Since PDP activists had been holding meetings and processions to protest the alleged harassment of Soofia Maudany, wife of the PDP leader, Abdul Nasir Maudany, by the Tamil Nadu police in Coimbatore recently, the needle of suspicion had pointed to that party and its supporters.
However, local PDP leadership vehemently denied the allegation.
Shamsuddin was arrested in the light of evidence gathered during the investigation conducted by the Assistant Commissioner of Police, K. Srinivasan.
