Seven rebel MLAs return to BJP in U.P.
Lucknow
Jan. 4.
The dissidents-hit Bharatiya Janata Party in Uttar Pradesh had some cause for cheer today after seven of the 11 rebel MLAs returned to the party fold.
The Leader of the BJP Legislature Party, Lalji Tandon, claimed before presspersons here that "seven of the 11 rebel party MLAs have returned to the party fold" and expressed the hope that the remaining dissidents would also follow suit.
However, only four MLAs Badshah Singh, Anil Verma, Ganga Bux Singh and Daya Shankar Verma were present at Mr. Tandon's residence.
He claimed that the MLAs, Ram Pratap Singh, Narendra Verma and Chandrakant Mani Singh, could not reach Lucknow due to inclement weather.
Mr. Tandon said the party would not press its petition seeking disqualification of the rebels from the membership of the Assembly.
He, however, made it clear that the petition would not be withdrawn.
On being asked about the remaining four rebel MLAs, Mr. Tandon said the party had no contact with them. The MLAs present at Mr. Tandon's residence said there was some "misunderstanding" between them and the party, which had been removed.
