Cold wave claims 316 lives

NEW DELHI JAN. 10. With the mercury continuing to slide and foggy conditions leading up to bleak winter days, the death toll in the cold wave in northern, eastern and central regions mounted to 316, including 26 deaths reported overnight.

The continuing cold wave in Uttar Pradesh claimed 23 more lives taking the toll to 158 and the State experienced the coldest day of the season with the mercury plummeting to zero degree in some parts.

The toll in Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh rose to 36, with one death each reported in these states. Patna and Gaya recorded minimum temperature of 2.4 degree Celsius.
