National road safety award

NEW DELHI
JAN. 10.
The Krishna District Lorry Owners Association, Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh and Sham Sunder Juneja of Ludhiana, Punjab have been selected for the National Road Safety Award, 2001 under NGO and individual category respectively, by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
Besides a citation and trophy, the award for NGO category carries a purse of Rs. 50,000 and Rs. 25,000 for the individual category. The awards were instituted with a view to encouraging and inculcating awareness about road safety, an official release said today.
In addition, the contributions towards propagation of road safety by Avadh Grameenn Vikash Sansthan, Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, Rashtriya Yuva Sangathan, Karnal, Haryana, Bhagavati Welfare Trust, Erode, Tamil Nadu in the NGO category and N. Judson, Tuticorin, Tamil Nadu, in the individual category, have also been recognised. The awards are likely to be presented in the Transport Development Council meeting scheduled to be held on January 16, at Vigyan Bhavan, here, the release added.
