'Sikhs hurt by PM's insensitivity'

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI JAN. 10. A day after the Prime Minister, Atal Behari Vajpayee, inaugurated the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, a senior Punjab Minister, Jagmohan Singh Kang, today took exception to his "failure" to make any reference to the Sikh guru, Gobind Singh, in his inaugural address.

Mr. Kang, who represented Punjab at the function, said while Mr. Vajpayee was able to recall the significance of January 9 as the day Mahatma Gandhi returned to India, he was silent about it being the birth anniversary of Guru Gobind Singh. "Mr. Vajpayee's insensitivity has deeply hurt the feelings of Sikhs in particular and Punjabis in general and indeed of every patriotic Indian who is aware of the supreme sacrifice of Dashmesh Pita Guru Gobind Singh and his whole family for the country's unity, integrity and secularism'', he said in a statement.
