'NDA to blame itself for soft State image'

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI JAN. 14. The Janata Party president, Subramanian Swamy, has said that India is not a soft State, but the NDA Government had been extraordinarily soft on terrorism.

In a statement today, he said the Deputy Prime Minister, L.K. Advani, should examine the conduct of his own government before declaring that there was "urgency to dispel the image of India being a soft State." "This image came as a consequence of the disastrous capitulation when the Indian Airlines plane was hijacked to Kandahar in December, 1999," he said. Also, despite the Supreme Court sentencing to death four LTTE persons, the Government had not "picked up the nerve" to carry out the judgment.
