'Beach avenue beautification awaits Central funds'

Pondicherry Jan. 18 . The Department of Tourism has presented to the Union Tourism Ministry an integrated plan for beautification of the beach avenue, the Bharathi Park and the Mahatma Gandhi square as part of tourism promotion here.

A communication from the office of the Tourism Minister said today the department has sought Rs. 5.15 crores towards these activities from the Centre and the proposal had been agreed to in principle during the recent visit of the Tourism Secretary to Pondicherry.

Once the funds were sanctioned by the Centre, follow-up action would be taken to carry out the beautification programmes.
