Letters to the Editor
Sir, The setting up of the nuclear command has come not a day too soon considering that India joined the nuclear club way back in 1998. Strategic planning and location of warheads, instant strike mode, preparedness and adequate protective and support systems these are among the crucial components of an effective nuclear shield. As the agency most charged with the onerous task of conducting war and a set-up conditioned for survivability in crisis situations, the armed forces would, ipso facto, have the primary say in the mechanism governing the deployment and use of nuclear weapons in the event of hostilities.
