India denies Pak. official was harassed

NEW DELHI JAN. 21. India today dismissed as ``false and fabricated'' Pakistan's allegation that its acting High Commissioner, Jalil Abbas Jilani, was aggressively chased and harassed by the Indian intelligence operatives early this month.

A Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson said: ``The Government investigated the matter and no truth was found in it.'' Pakistan lodged a formal protest with India on January 7, stating that the operatives of the intelligence agencies chased Mr. Jilani for almost two weeks.

The spokesperson said that the harassment of Sudhir Vyas, India's Charge de Affaires in Islamabad, was ``unprecedented and unacceptable. This reflects the mindset of the Pakistani authorities who want to keep bilateral relations off the track''.
