Manipur team meets CPI(M) leaders

NEW DELHI JAN. 21. A large all-party delegation from Manipur met the CPI(M) politburo members, Sitaram Yechury and S. Ramachandran Pillai here.

The CPI(M) told the delegation that while it welcomed talks with the NSCN (I-M) to resolve the Naga militancy. However, it reiterated its earlier position that in arriving at any agreement with the NSCN(IM), the Centre should not disturb the existing territorial integrity of the north-eastern States. Any attempt to do this would have serious consequences on peace and stability in the entire north-eastern region, the party told the delegation.

The CPI(M) saidit had sought a meeting of all parties in the north-east to build a consensus.
