Many seek Cong. ticket for Humnabad bypoll

BIDAR JAN. 21. The list of aspirants to contest the Humnabad Assembly byelection, scheduled for February 26, on the Congress ticket is growing.

According to party sources, the District Congress Committee president, Basavaraj Bulla, has received applications from eight candidates. They are: R.S. Manohar, former MLC, Srikanth Patil, who contested as KCP candidate in 1994; Babu Thumba, Basavanthrao Deshmukh, Moosamia, Khaleel, Subash Kashimpur, former zilla panchayat member; and Bakkappa Sherikar, president of the Backward Classes Cell. Rajashekar Patil, son of the district in-charge Minister, Basavaraj Patil Humnabad, who unsuccessfully contested the 1999 Assembly elections as the Congress candidate, has so far not made a representation to be considered.
