28 officers get PVSM

New Delhi Jan. 25. As many as 28 senior armed forces officers have been selected for Param Vishisht Seva Medal (PVSM) for exceptionally distinguished service on the occasion of the Republic Day. The officers include the Adjutant General, Lt. Gen. Ananthnarayan Natarajan and the Director-General of the newly-formed Defence Intelligence Agency, Lt. Gen. Kamleshwar Davar.

Also among the recipients of the medal are the Commander-in-Chief of Tri-Services Command in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Vice-Admiral Om Prakash Bansal, the Director-General of Armed Forces Medical Services (Air Force), Air Marshal Satish Kumar Ramlal Dham and the Controller (Warship Production and Acquisition), Vice-Admiral Pravesh Jaitly.

The Director-General (Signals), Lt. Gen. Dharam Prakash Sehgal, was selected for putting into use the latest communication support during `Operation Parakram' and also helping the new Hamid Karzai Government in Afghanistan in the field. The Commander-in-Chief of the Central Air Command, Air Marshal Shashindra Pal Tyagi, who is to take over the South West Air Command from February 1, has also been selected.

Lt. Gen. Bijoy Nandan Shahi, an internationally-renowned heart specialist in the Army Medical Corps, Lt. Gen. Tejinderjit Singh Gill of the Army Ordnance Corps, Lt. Gen. Prakash Suri of the Engineers, the former Director-General (Military Operations) and now Commandant of the National Defence College, Lt. Gen. Sarvjit Singh Chahal are also being awarded the medal.

The Military Secretary in the Army headquarters, Lt. Gen. Mahesh Vij, the Chief of Personnel in the Navy, Vice-Admiral Yashwant Prasad, the Commander-in-Chief of the Western Air Command, Air Marshal Adi Rustomji Ghandhi and Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief (Medical Corps), Air Marshal Dinesh Chandra Nigam, would be given PVSMs.

The Inspector-General (Flight Safety) of the Indian Air Force, Air Marshal Ashok Kumar Goel and Air Officer in-charge of Maintenance at the Air headquarters, Air Marshal Vijay A Patkar, are also in the list.

The others in the list are Lt. Gen. Brij Mohan Kapur (Armed Corps), Lt. Gen. Dinesh Singh Chauhan (Infantry), Lt. Gen. Rajinder K. Mehta (EME), Lt. Gen. Naresh Chand (Artillery), Lt. Gen. Hari Uniyal (Engineers), Lt. Gen. Bhopinder Singh (Inf), Lt. Gen. Ashok Chaki (Inf), Lt. Gen. Parminder Paul Singh Bindra (Inf), Lt. Gen. Vijay Kumar Dua (Engineers), Lt. Gen. Narayan Chatterjee (Arty) and Lt. Gen. Roshan Lal Magotra (Signals).

Honour for CRPF personnel

Fifty-three personnel of the Central Reserve Police Force have been awarded the President's Police Medal for Gallantry, the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The President's Police Medal for Gallantry has been given to 14 personnel, three of them posthumously, while the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service has been awarded to 5 and the Police Medal for Meritorious Service to 34 personnel.

The recipients of the President's Police Medal for Gallantry are Commandant RPS Rana, Asst. Commdt. K.S. Rana, Head Constable G.P. Singh, Hriday Ram, Constable Prithvi Singh, M.P. Singh, Mool Singh, Utpal Dev, Ganesh Kumar, Nirmal Prakash and Lakwhinder Singh.

Sub-Inspector M.S. Bishi, Constable S.K. Das and Ashok Kumar have been awarded the medals posthumously.

President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service: IGP, Vageesh Mishra, DIGP, M.M. Sharma, Addn. DIGP, Rizwan Rasool, Com. GMS Khatit and Jagjit Singh.

Police Medal for Meritorious Service: ADIGP, P.N. Sharma, Comm. R. Gurbani, B.R. Singh, Joginder Singh, A.S. Verma, Suresh Pal Singh, A.S. Khan, R.L. Meena, G.P. Singh, C.S. Rathore, CMO, A. 22 CBI men get medals

Twenty Two officers and other ranks of the Central Bureau of Investigation have been awarded the President's Police Medal for distinguished Service and Police Medal for Meritorious Service by the President, A.P.J. Abdul Kalam.

While the President's Police Medal has been awarded to five personnel, the Police Medal has been conferred on 17 personnel.

45 BSF personnel honoured

Forty-five personnel of the Border Security Force have been awarded President's Police medal for Distinguished Service/Police Medal for Meritorious Service.

The names of the personnel receiving the awards are as follows: President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service: R.N. Sharma, DIG, A.K. Ghosh, DIG, U.N. Panda CMO (SG), B.S. Rautela, Deputy Commandant.

13 ITBP personnel to be decorated

K.J. Singh, Additional Director General of Indo Tibetian Border Police and S K Singh, DIG are among the 13 police personnel of ITBP, who have been decorated with the Police Medals.

The recipients of the President's Police Medal for Gallantry are Assistant Commandant, Kundan Prasad, Head Constable, Surjeet Singh and Constable, Netra Singh.

Additional DG, K.J. Singh and Assistant Commandant, Shiv Ram Sharma, would be awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished Service.

Those who will receive the Police Medal for Meritorious Service include DIG S.K. Singh, Commandant Hira Singh, CMO Tallamraju Ravi Prasad, Dy. Commandant J.P. Pant, Inspector D.P. Manori, Head Constable P.L. Shah, Head Constable, Nettar Singh and Surat Singh.
