House loan orders to be cancelled

By Our Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM FEB. 6. The Government today directed the Heads of Departments to cancel the orders sanctioning housing loans to Government employees for the year 2001-02 in the case of those who had not received the loan so far, as a scheme had been drawn up to provide this facility to them through banks.

The Government asked the HoDs to make sure that the employees had not received the loan before cancelling the orders.

It also included two more banks— the State Bank of Travancore and the Canara Bank— in addition to the State Bank of India in the scheme.

The interest rates of all the three banks would be the same— 8.75 per cent for loans up to Rs. 5 lakhs and nine per cent for loans above that.
